Who is Abraham Lincoln?

Hey, so yeah I live in Washington D.C and yesterday our 11th grade teacher gave us a project to do on one of the presidents. I have to do it on some guy named abraham Lincoln. Can you give me some basic information on him cause I don't know who he is. Is he the same guy they named that funky monument in dowtown DC after?
